Micropigmentation can replace eyebrow hairs lost over time by shaving or plucking, which can also cause the eyebrow to thin and turn gray.
Although models and movie stars can comfortably add eyebrow powder and eyeliner when needed, the average man doesn’t have the skill, time, or inclination. Permanent makeup is an inexpensive technique for enhancing the appearance of the upper third of the face. Eyebrows affect the angles of the face and the eye appearance. Eyebrows can “lift” a sleepy eye or bring down a high forehead. Eyebrows can move the observer’s eye from a balding pate to a soulful expression. Eyebrows help locate the eye for that meaningful eye-to-eye glance. Shaping the BrowMale brows need fullness and length as opposed to the arch and delicacy of the female eyebrow. Hairs (if they are present) should be combed upward so that the lower brow border is visible. It is this shape that is the foundation. Starting the brow above this shape necessitates continuously having to pluck away growth. If there is no hair or minimal hair, the brow should be designed by hand starting immediately below or on the brow bone on most faces. The breadth of each eyebrow, dependent on personal choice, should avoid any delicate line that mimics a female eyebrow. The arch height should be minimal. Some male eyebrows are straight across with a slightly lowered tale while others may have a gentle arch midway. They should not droop onto the lid. Length is from the inner eye to slightly beyond the outer canthus of the eye but again, it is preference. Tattooing the BrowHair strokes may appear more natural if there is any base of hair or color. Shading the brow area gives the illusion of an eyebrow. Shades of brown are best since gray may tend to look bruised and black should not be used in the eyebrow area. This is a small area without a lot of nerve endings and it is best to use minimal anesthetic if tolerated. Anesthetic tends to interfere with pigment pick up and prolong the procedure. Sometimes a suggestion of a brow is enough if there is no hair and especially if the head is shaved or has a receding hairline. The intention is to balance the face and bring the focus to the eyes, not to create a brow. If there are hairs present, shadow and hair strokes frame the eye bringing the viewers eye to the eyes not the brow. For the man with no or very pale lower lashes a few dots of lash enhancement will also bring focus to the eye and not the brow. After Care of Permanent Makeup EyebrowsA focus visit is usually needed to see how the color healed and to” fine tune” the brow based on expression and bone structure. Most people don’t have perfect facial symmetry, but the overall impression should be one of matching sides and matching the eye size. Sunglasses that cover the brow area should be used while healing. Lubricants prevent the itching of healing skin that may cause pigment escaping by scratching. Permanent Makeup Eyebrows vs. Tattooed BrowsPermanent makeup is a tattoo. The person doing the procedure usually specializes in this type of tattoo. Typically the man who has done the skull on your bicep or the anchor on your chest isn’t the same one who is defing the planes of your upper face and highlighting your eyes by tattooing the eyebrow. Look for technicians belonging to professional societies such as SPCP or AAOM. Discuss their work and look at pictures. You and the technician together create the eyebrow you wish Upkeep of the Tattooed Eyebrow AreaAlthough called permanent makeup, cosmetic tattooing is a semi permanent procedure requiring touch ups to maintain the look and color. A lower back size tattoo may fade but its overall presence remains; a small area such an eyebrow fading gives an undone impression. Unless previous surgery (such as hair transplant), scarring should not occur or interfere with touch ups. Areas of old scars from surgery, chickenpox, or accidents, may have a harder time taking color or retaining it. Sun and swimming and other chemical treatments will lighten the eyebrow tattoo. Laser procedures will remove it almost entirely.
