Finding the Best Tattoo Artist is Important, gracey
Getting a tattoo requires more preparation than many people think, and choosing the right tattoo artist is incredibly important to leaving a parlor with good body ink.

After thinking through a possible tattoo design comes the process of finding a high quality tattoo parlor. And even at that point, there is still a level of care that needs to be taken. Finding the best artist from whom to get a tattoo is as important as choosing a tattoo parlor that meets standards of cleanliness and excellence of work. Having a bad relationship with a tattoo artist can lead to a bad tattoo, and such a mark is very permanent. There are some basic guidelines that should be followed when deciding who should actually do the ink work behind a tattoo.

Talk to Multiple Tattoo Artists

Before picking the first artist one talks to, an individual should discuss tattoo designs, sketches and prices with various artists. The most basic requirements for deciding whether an artist is right are:

  • Experience and portfolio
  • Attitude

Look Through Various Tattoo Portfolios

Tattoo artists will have sketchbooks, photographs or albums of their past work. Having proof of quality workmanship allows them to show off their experience in giving tattoos, their skill and flexibility as artists and talk through possible tattoo designs during the process. Most artists will be willing to draw up or examine a sketch or design idea brought into the shop; getting a prospective design form multiple artists can help in choosing the one who does the best work.

An experienced artist is more likely to be able to interpret a basic idea and give it more detail, but looking through a portfolio is always an important tool in checking out the work of a prospective artist. If one artist’s work stands out, he or she may be the best one.

Establish a Positive Rapport with Tattoo Artists

Although a tattoo artist with a bad attitude should lose any consideration immediately, it is always important to begin and maintain a positive relationship with tattoo artists. Deciding to get a tattoo can be an intimidating experience, so finding a tattoo artist and tattoo parlor that alleviates that worry is important. While a tattoo artist may not become a lifelong friend, it is an individual who will have a significant impact on one’s body; the relationship should be one of mutual respect.

Find an artist whose work is appealing and whose attitude puts the individual at ease. Getting a tattoo from someone who is very friendly but whose work isn’t quite what is desired will be just as disastrous as getting a tattoo from a highly skilled artist who is intimidating or unfriendly. The tattoo experience should be relaxed and profitable for both parties.

Look for someone whose work satisfies the design requirements of the tattoo and who will be willing to work with an individual on further creative design changes or modifications. While a tattoo artist may not be a personal friend, they should take pride in their work, and for someone who wants multiple tattoos, having a good relationship with an artist will be very beneficial.

Check the Cleanliness of Tattoo Parlors and Workstations

Ensure that the tattoo parlor and the individual artist are maintaining a level of orderliness and cleanliness; tattoo needles can spread infections and should only be used once and then disposed of in a hazardous waste receptacle. Finding a tattoo parlor that meets these standards and an artist who has a sanitary workstation are important in getting a good tattoo.

Finding the best tattoo artist can seem like an intimidating process; it can be awkward to interview several artists about the same tattoo, but doing so will ensure that the best art what will go into an individual’s tattoo.
